Cover from Germany no. 3

One of the first covers received in 2011, with four German stamps issued on 3 January 2011: 0.75 euro ballonblume in the ongoing series of definitive stamps, a famous painting by romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich, and two commemoratives connected with the German state of Hesse: a stamp dedicated to the history of gliders flying off the Wasserkuppe, a high plateau in the Rhön Mountains near Fulda, and a stamp dedicated to the only national park in Hesse, Kellerwald-Edersee NP.

The letter was sent through Briefzentrum no. 41, in Monchengladbach.

Here is a postcard showing the small historic town of Boitzenburg, located north of Berlin in Uckermark District, Brandenburg.

The 55 eurocent wishing stamp was issued on 11 March 2010, and is complemented by a 10 eurocent definitive tulip.

The Briefzentrum 13 is code of Berlin-Nord sorting centre.

Postcard from Germany no. 2

A postcard showing one of German UNESCO World Heritage sites, Monastic Island of Reichenau, on Lake Constance, in the state of Baden-Württemberg. There are traces of a Benedictine monastery, founded in 724, plus churches of St Mary and Marcus, St Peter and St Paul, and St George from the 9th - 11th centuries. The self-adhesive stamp from 2008 is dedicated to the island as well, showing its panorama and details from its rich historic heritage. The rest of the postage is covered by 20 eurocent flower definitive, marigold. The card was postmarked in Briefzemtrum 59 - Hamm. Thank you, Maren!

Cover no. 2 from Germany

Received today from Frankfurt am Main (17), a lovely pictorial cover with two commemorative stamps dedicated to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The 65c stamp (issued on 12 July 2007) shows a palace in Riga, Latvia along with two statues. The same stamps were issued in 2007 also in Latvia.

The larger 145c stamp was issued on 7 May 2009 and depicts five of the Luther Memorials in Eisleben and Wittenberg (Saxony-Anhalt). This stamp is also part of series of stamps dedicated to German UNESCO World Heritage sites issued this year by the United Nations in Vienna, Geneva and New York.

Postcard from Germany no. 1

A postcard showing St. Johanniskirche in the historic centre of Lüneburg, pop. 72,000, a city in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region, North Germany, a member of the former Hanseatic League.

The commemorative stamp of EUR 0.55 issued on 27 December 2007 is dedicated to the 275th anniversary of birth of builder and architect Carl Gotthard Langhans (1732 - 1808), whose main achievement was the Brandenburger Tor in Berlin, shown here in a picture from 1798. The tulip stamp is part of the ongoing series of German definitives and was issued on 8 September 2005.

The card was sent on 16 April 2009 from Briefzentrum 20 (Hamburg-Zentrum). Thank you, Klaus!

Christmas cover from Germany

Yesterday I received this nice letter from Wurzen, Germany, dated 2/12/2008, with the complete series of this year's German Christmas stamps. They were issued on 13 November 2008, in a joint issue with Vatican, since one stamp shows a picture housed in a German museum, and the other one a picture which can be found in a Vatican gallery. The pictures are: Raffaello - Adorazione dei Magi (1517-1519) [55 + 25 eurocent] and Albrecht Durer - Geburt Christi (around 1500) [45 + 20 eurocent]. Both very nicely designed. Thank you, Thomas!
