New Czech stamps - November 2008

There are 6 new stamps published today in the Czech Republic. Two miniature sheets, two Christmas stamps and two stamps from the traditional series representing major works exhibited in Czech galleries.



The Allegory of Waters is a landscape painting in the Dutch tradition by Jan Jakub Hartmann (1658? – 1736/45). The miniature sheet consists of the stamp itself (30 CZK), engraved, and the rest of the sheet printed in offset. The print run is 100,000.

The Trebechovice Bethlehem (located in Trebechovice in the region of East Bohemia) is part of the Czech national heritage and is a huge, 7 metre long mechanical device depicting the life of Christ from his birth to his Resurrection. The construction of the work began in 1885 and took more than 40 years. It contains more than 2,000 cut pieces. The stamp itself, as in the case of the picture above, is engraved and the rest printed in offset. The print run is also 100,000.

Christmas stamp of 10 CZK (domestic tariff for both postcards and letters up to 20 grams), featuring apples, fir twigs and nuts - the paraphelnalia of the Czech Christmas. Print-run 15,000,000 (not 100,000 as mentioned earlier).

Another 10 CZK winter stamp, featuring a painting called Children in Winter by the Czech artist Josef Lada (whose picture was on the last year's Christmas stamp). The stamps are issued in sheets of 9 stamps plus 12 tabs (one of them showing a small boy making a snowman), the other tabs show a postmark with the text "The 90th anniversary of the Czech Post", there are also tabs available for private orders.
