Postcard from Croatia

Zvětšit mapu

A great postcard sent on 6 April 2010, showing an aerial view of Vukovar in eastern Croatia, in Vukovar-Syrmia County (županija). Vukovar has approximately 30,000 inhabitants and is the largest Croatian river port (on the Danube).

The 3.10 kuna stamp was issued on 15 March. together with 3 other stamps, in a series dedicated to the Croatian etnographical heritage (for the previous stamps in this series from 2009 please see my earlier Croatia post). The stamp was issued in 3 million copies and shows a traditional pattern from Međimurje, northern Croatia.

Thank you, Goran!

Cover from Croatia no. 4

Another nice cover from Croatia, this time from Dragan. Thank you! It was sent on 26 January 2009 and received on 2 February 2009.

The postage is here covered by 5 stamps. The 2.30 kuna photo stamp shows a view of the centre of Koprivnica in the north of Croatia and was issued on 30 October 2007, in 2 milion copies, as part of a series of stamps dedicated to various Croatian towns. The trio of the great 1 kuna stamps is part of the Croatian Etnographic Heritage series issued on 30 September 2009 in 200,000 copies and presents a traditional textile fabric from northern Dalmatia (Ravni Kotari). The stamp with the coupon commemorates the 20th Anniversary of the Healthy Cities Movemement, begun in 1998 in Zagreb. The coupon has four interesting logos/emblems, which are the World Health Organisation Europe, International Healthy Cities Conference 15-18/10/2008 held in Zagreb, a symbol of the Healthy City Zagreb, and the coat of arm of this city.

Pre-stamped postcard from Croatia

A great "dopisnica" (postal card) sent by Dragan from the city of Rijeka on 26 February 2009. The card has a printed stamp with La Futuro monument commemorating (as the whole card) the 100th anniversary of esperanto in Croatia. The card cost 1.80 kuna, was issued on 7 November 2008, and for mailing to the Czech Republic a 2.30 kuna stamp was used to cover the rest of the postage. The stamp shows the heart of the town of Makarska, the tourist centre of the Makarska Riviera on the coast, and was issued in 4,000,000 copies on 30 March 2001. I find this card very interesting, as I myself came in contact with esperanto some years ago.

Thank you, Dragan!

Cover from Croatia no. 3

Another fine cover from Tomislav, sent on 27 January 2009 from the town of Nedelišce and received 3 days later on 30 January. This time there is an impressive selection of four ships, selected from a 9-piece series dedicated to the craft connected with the Croatian coast or history, issued by the Croatian post on 27 August 1998. The 1.20 kuna stamp shows the oldest ship of all, the serilia liburnica; the 1.50 kuna stamp takes us to the 11-12th centuries when condura croatica was in use; the 1.60 kuna stamp features a Ragusan argosy from the 16th century, and the 7.20 kuna ship called Amorella is wholly modern and represents the production of shipyards in Split.

Thank you, Tommy!

Cover from Croatia no. 2

Received on 19 January 2009, sent on 16 January 2009 from the town of Nedelišce in northern Croatia. A beautiful envelope with a religious motif, covered with stamps and coupons from the stamp-sheet commemorating the 700th anniversary of the foundation of the monastery of St. Clare in Split. The stamp was issued on 16 September 2008 in 300,000 copies, in sheets of 25 stamps and 5 coupons.

The total value of the two stamps is 5.60 kuna, the sticker at the back of the letter adds 4.40 kuna to make up the total of 10 kuna (twice as much as the previous letter I received from Croatia). Thank you, Tomislav!
