A postcard from Peru, showing the historic centre of the city of Arequipa (Arequipa Region), in the Andes in the south of the country. In the picture there is the Plaza de Arms and the cathedral, overshadowed by the "El Misti" volcano. The historic centre of Arequipa is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The single stamp of 5.50 Peruvian nuevos soles, postmarked on 26 May 2010 in Arequipa, is taken from a sheet of four stamps issued in 2007 (even if the stamp bears the year 2006) dedicated to viceregal architecture. The viceregal period (periodo virreinal) lasted from 1542 to 1824 when Peru was part of the Spanish empire.

A crazy idea came true... sand and small seashells sent from the Pacific coast in Lima, Peru, to be placed in our garden... packed in this lovely, sort of old-fashioned envelope with a view of Machu Picchu. The duplicate stamp of 8.50 nuevos soles was issued on 29 December 2006 and commemorates the 75th anniversary of the first philatelic exposition of Peru featuring a triangular stamp from 1931 commemorating it at that time. Unfortunately not cancelled, but the other postmarks confirm it having passed through the Czech customs in Prague. Postage amounting to 17 Peruvian Nuevos Soles, which is almost 4 euros. Peru cover received on 11 May 2009 from the capital of Lima. The single 7.50 pesos stamps shows Espostoa mirabilis, from the series Cacti of Peru (Cactus of Peru), issued in 2008. I was not able to get any more info. The letter was postmarked at a philatelic counter, "Ventanilla Filatélica". Gracias, Juan Manuel.
