After Argentina this is another faraway place:) This great postcard arrived in September 2010 from the town of Tenom in Sabah, Malaysia, and shows the remains of an ancient volcano (hills of Bodgaya and Bohey Dulang islands) in Tun Sakaran Marine Park, one of the six national parks in the state of Sabah (Borneo).

The 30 sen square stamp has sweet potatoes (Ubi Keledek, Ipomoea batatas), from a series called "Tuber Plants" of four stamps (and a souvenir sheet), issued on 23 July 2009. The the other 30 sen stamps features Pteroptyx valida, one of the fireflies presented in a set of four stamps and a souvenir sheet issued on 10 May 2010.

A beautiful postcard received from the city of Kota Bharu, capital of Kelantan state in northern Malasia, showing a tropical dream... a sunset over Kok Bay at Pulau Langkawi, part of an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea, some 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia (state of Kedah).

The attractive 50-sen tiger stamps was issued on 23 February 2010 in a joint emission with Korea. It shows Korean tiger, aka Siberian tiger (Panthera tigris altaica, or tygr ussurijský in Czech). The other stamp in the se-tenant series shows Malayan tiger. The stamps commemorate the year of the tiger and also the 50th anniversary of Malayan-Korea diplomatic relations.

A 3-stamp yellow cover sent on 11 November 2009 from Muar, in the state of Johor, with stamps representing three different recent series:

The 50 sen black and white stamp is part of a series dedicated to Malaysian comics (2008), with Town Boy; the 50 sen stamp in the middle shows the top of the first Malaysian submarine along with the Malaysian flag (issued on 3 September 2009), and the third stamp shows the Low Energy Office building in Putrajaya, part of a series presenting ecological buildings in Malyasia (issued on 9 September 2009). Postcard from Malaysia

In fact just an addendum to the previous post. A fresh card received on Friday from Penang, Malaysia, showing a larger image of the Malacca stamp. The commentary on the card tells that the red house (Stadhuys) was built in 1650 as the official residence of Dutch governors and their oficers, and nowadays houses the Historical and Etnography Museum. Still riding the latest UNESCO wave, I'd like to show here this beautiful cover from Malaysia, sent on 9 April 2009 (oh, I notice there are so many lovely covers which I haven't covered yet after so many months:o) The two se-tenant stamps show the major sights of Malacca and Georgetown (Penang), Historic Cities of the Straits of Malacca (inscribed in the UNESCO list in 2008), places mingling the Malaysian heritage with the Dutch, Portuguese and British influences. The stamps were issued in April 2009 and are complemented by two other se-tenants, showing the Mulu National Park and Kinabalu Park. Thank you, Kow Siew Lan!

A nice pictorial cover received on 30 June 2008 from Johor in Malaysia (the postmark is illegible, but I suppose the letter came from Muar where the sender lives). Nurulhuda used the first day cover for the series called "Butterflies of Malaysia" (issued 24 April 2008) and put on two of the 4 stamps: Malay red harleyquin (Paralaxita damajanti damajanti - 50 sen), and Glorious begum (Agatasa calydonia calydonia - RM1). On 23 December 2008 I received this very nice cover from Siew Lan (on blogspot as fungstamp). It features the whole series, issued on 13 March 2008, dedicated to Malaysian nocturnal animals (Haiwan-Haiwan Nokturnal): 30 sen - teledu (Mydaus javanensis), 30 sen - tikus ambang bulan (Echinosorex gymnurus), 50 sen - kucing tulap (Catopuma temminckii), RM1 - keluang (Pteropus vampyrus).
